In 1962, Professor Manoel Bezerra de Melo created, in the city of Mogi das Cruzes, an elementary school. Thus, the Mogiana Organization of Education and Culture - OMEC was born. The first faculties of the educational complex were installed in 1964.
In 1973 it became the University of Mogi das Cruzes (UMC) and, in these more than 50 years of the institution's history, always guided by its tradition and pioneering spirit.
UMC has been proud, over the years, to transform the lives of more than 20 thousand students on the Mogi das Cruzes and Villa-Lobos / Lapa campuses and prepare them for the demands of the job market.
The faculty of the University of Mogi das Cruzes is composed of 60% of masters and doctors, professionals who develop important scientific projects within the institution. Students also contribute to these research projects and, for this, receive scientific initiation grants.
UMC has several courses in its portfolios, whose content and teaching-learning methods are continually updated and improved. With quality infrastructure, composed of laboratories, modern equipment and spaces specially planned for the development of classes, lectures, conferences, among several other academic activities.
Recently, the university was evaluated by the Ministry of Education (MEC), obtaining grade 4 (on a scale of 1 to 5), which places it among the best private universities in Brazil and the best in the Alto Tietê Region.
