Avon Cosmetics is an American cosmetics company. Its history began in 1886 when David McConnell started the California Perfume Company in Manhattan, New York. The name Avon, by which it would become known worldwide, only appeared in 1939, inspired by the hometown of writer William Shakespeare, Stratford-upon-Avon. In Brazil, it only appeared in 1958.
Over the years, Avon has developed several product lines, ranging from fragrances, makeup, hair, and skin care, as well as a children's line. Through its catalog and reseller sales system, it has achieved significant market share in the beauty industry.
